Swansea,   11 January 1975
Newport denied Swansea their third successive 3rd round cup victory over them with a hard earned
10-3 victory but Swansea rarely looked like making it a treble. Roger Blyth scored their only points
with a 1st minute penalty goal from 35yds but within minutes Jeff Hazzard levelled the scores and
put Newport into a 6-3 half time lead with another penalty goal. Newport?s pack dominated the
scrums more and more as the game went on, with the Swansea eight frequently back pedalling and
Lyn Jones and Jeff Watkins shared the honours at the line-outs with Geoff Wheel and Mike James.
After the interval John Jeffrey scored a typical try from a scrum five when he was over the line before
Swansea even realised he had the ball. Despite a strong Swansea fight-back in the last quarter,
Newport held out.
