Newbridge,   26 February 1977
As expected this all Gwent clash centered on a rugged, bruising forward battle that was no place for the
faint-hearted. Newbridge got off to a dream start when their captain Howard Evans dropped a neat 30yd
dropped goal before the game was 3 mins old, but they were soon in arrears. As Ken Davies crashed
over in the 12th min and then Leighton Davies kicked a superb penalty goal from the centre spot. Tony
Browning kept Newbridge in touch with a penalty goal, before Gareth Evans increased Newport?s lead
With a magnificent solo try that left the Newbridge defence in tatters. Leighton Davies converted.
Newbridge's continuous pressure in the second half was soaked up by Newport but John Young finished
off an excellent move by forwards and backs for a fine consolation try for a final score of 13-10.
