Newport's first victory of the season against British opposition provided an opportunity for players to regain lost confidence and there was never any doubt about the outcome.

Keith James opened the scoring early on with a dropped goal followed by a David Cornwall try which came from a charged down clearance kick which he dribbled on and scored. David Bale showed some neat touches to round off a fine Waters break with a corner try, superbly converted by Avery. Bargoed's best spell came in the opening 15 mins of the second half but then Avery and Cornwall crossed for further tries in the 59th and 75th mins to wrap it up.
