Pyle,   15 December 1979
Pyle's twenty match unbeaten run was halted at a windy and wet Rodney Parade. The conditions were always bad and deteriorated to Newport's disadvantage as the match progressed and as a result Pyle, with the gale at their backs, made a real contest of it in the second half. All Newport's points came in the first half with tries by Gareth Evans and Mike Avery from a piercing break and a long pass from Justin Robinson. Newport kept Pyle at bay restricting them to just two Howell Davies second half penalties.
