Swansea,   08 March 1986
An international class performance by the Newport back-row inspired them to a deserved 10-4 victory. David Waters playing No 8, flankers Richie Collins and Roger Powell reigned supreme to shut the dangerous Swansea backs out of the game. Powell regularly winning the ball on the floor and Collins? pace and driving runs having Swansea in disarray. Yet Newport could not translate their superiorty into points. Endless opportunities were wasted, but when it began to look like Newport were going to throw it away, Mark Titley dropped a towering Nigel Callard kick which he regathered himself and the ball was transfered out to wing Marc Batten to go over in the corner. Almost immediately Swansea equalised, Dacey making a glorious break from his own 25, kicking ahead for Robert Jones to beat Turner for the race for the ball. Two Paul Turner penalties in the last 10 minutes for late tackles on himself put Newport through. Swansea were pressing in injury time but Mike Watkins made a superb strike against the head to thwart any hopes of Swansea snatching the game.
