After 50 mins Newport led by just 9-6 and a shock looked on the cards. Newport were forced to dig in and hold on before clinching the game with five second half tries.

Llangennech took the lead early on with a well executed three-quarter try, but sadly after this they tried any method to ruffle Newport's feathers. Prop Richard Bowen found himself in the cooler in the 12th min for flattening Frank Hillman, then right-wing Paul Morgan knocked Jon Calllard flat out with a punch. Newport then got themselves into an ugly brawl with punches ten to the dozen and referee James trying in vain to split the waring parties. After that Newport exercised total control and a 24pt surge saw them through to the next round.
