Fairwater,   18 December 1993
Newport ensured it was a day of mud, sweat and tears for Cardiff minnows Fairwater at a soggy Ashcroft Park. Despite confronting a jumbo pack, a partisan crowd and the setback of conceding a try after just 14 seconds, Newport turned the set-piece screw magnificently and within 19 minutes Newport were 20-7 ahead to make sure there was no upset of Penclawdd proportions. David Llewellyn opened the account, diving over from close range. Andrew Lewis was left in acres of space to canter over. Neil Jones finished off a driving maul and Duncan Hughes lunged over following forward pressure. Foley pounced for his second score, but David Rees hit back with a penalty goal. Newport applied all the pressure in the second half but could not crack the resolute Fairwater defence as play and conditions detioriated.
