From the match programme:-
"WELCOME."
"It is with much pleasure and delight that the Amman United extends a warm welcome once again to Newport R.F.C. on this their second visit to Cwmamman Park."
"Two seasons ago, the first ever encounter between the two clubs took place resulting in a victory to Newport by 22pt - nil. Much has happened to both clubs since that day. Newport have gone from strength to strength, gaining promotion as champions into the first division of the Heineken league."
"During the same period, the Amman have secured promotion on two successive seasons, resulting in the club now being in section A of the West Wales league and in the process winning their first major trophy in West Wales since becoming champions in season 1953 - 54."
"Returning to the Newport ranks in his capacity as Team Manager is David Walkins former Wales and British Lions outside half at both Union and League rugby. May his return to Welsh rugby be a happy and a successful one, possibly delaying any success until after this cup round."
"Coaching duties have been entrusted to Roger Powell, whilst on the field the team is led by Colin [sic] George."
"The Amman realise the magnitude of the task before them and have prepared for the match with determination. Immense credit must be given to the players for their dedication and effort during the training sessions under the watchful eyes of coaches Peter Griffiths and Clive Williams."
"In concluding, we also extend a warm and sincere welcome to the referee and to his two touch judges."
"CROESO GYNNES I CASNEWYDD ODDIWRTH CLWB RUGBI YR AMAN"
The match itself:-
A priceless first half injury time touchdown from Ian Jeffries resulted in Newport avoiding a Penclawdd style exit from this difficult fifth round tie. An immense performance from prop Andrew Dibble, a fine display from newly recruited David Rees, and with the lions share of first half possession all Newport had to show for it was a Westwood penalty goal and the Jeffries try. It was scant reward with gilt edged opportunities going astray through a combination of wrong options and missed shots at goal. Two Alan Davies penalty goals in the second half brought Amman within a penalty of staging a major upset, until Newport put a block on it.
