Just four days after the sacking of coach Paul Evans and team manager Alex Laurie, Newport racked up an impressive 62pts to erase the memories of their last Welsh cup encounter and give new coach Steve Jones a great start. Tries from Owain Thomas, Jason Hewlett and Mark Workman and 7 pts from Gareth Rees gave Newport a 22pt lead at the interval.

Richard Rees led the second half try feast with a hat-trick of his own and with the scoreboard ticking over at a point a minute, Workman, Duncan Hughes and Gareth Rees helped themselves to further scores with Rees clocking up 22pts with 7c and 1p.
