Caerphilly,   23 March 1996
In spite of a shocking performance, Newport made the last four for the first time in four years. Despite winning a glut of first half possession, knock ons, wayward passing, wrong options and poor kicking littered Newport's game and all they had to show for their industry was two Gareth Rees penalty goals. Even Rod Snow's powerful charge to the try line five mins into the second half failed to inject any life into a lifeless home side. It was Newport's poor performance that kept Caerphilly very much in the hunt. A Conway penalty and a Wyn Evans try after a break by former Newport captain Roger Bidgood left a nerve jingling final ten mins for Newport to endure.
