A 3rd minute Jan Machacek try opened the scoring and Ian Jones extended it. Young scrum-half Gareth Cooper gave the students some hope but a further two tries in three minutes from David Smith and Shaun Connor gave Newport a 31-5 lead at half time.
They pulled well clear after the break with Matthew Robinson, Martyn Llewellyn and Nicky Lloyd scoring tries in quick succession. Consolation tries came from Peter Roberts and Jon Williams for UWIC but the visitors continued to dominate with David Smith scoring twice and replacement Matthew Watkins scoring.
