Eventual cup winners Llanelli put out Newport at Stradey Park after former Newport player Matt Cardey had been stretchered off with concussion just one week after winniing his first Welsh Cap.

Llanelli and Wales outside-half Stephen Jones turned in a polished performance with 21 points from 2 tries, 4 conversions and a penalty. Tongan wing Salesi Finau also scored two tries and Newport conceded a penalty try.
