A powerful first half display at the Bridge Field took Newport into the Q/F?s. Using the wind they scored 22 first half points including 3 tries. After just 2 minutes Percy Montgomery made space for wing Matt Mostyn to cross wide out. A penalty try for collapsing the scrum and conversion by Jason Strange took Newport to 12-0 after the first quarter. Bedwas continued to defend well with the occasional attack into Newport territory but Strange kicked a penalty and then missed two fairly easy ones until on the stroke of HT Newport moved the ball right to left in the Bedwas 22 for Jason Jones-Hughes to cross for a try converted by Strange to make the score 22-0 at HT.
Bedwas came more into the game in the 2nd half and scored 2 tries to 1. The Bedwas pack hammered away until Nathan Hill rolled out of a tackle and scored after 55 minutes. Newport replacement Mike Voyle scored 5 minutes from the end but Bedwas had the last laugh when Bedwas unmarked replacement fullback Nathan Gittins picked up a kick by replacement lock Anthony Evans to cross for a try.
