Wing Luke Nabaro scored a hat-trick of tries as Newport overwhelmed their Gwent rivals at Eugene Cross Park. Flanker Jason Forster scored 2 tries while Springbok star Percy Montgomery kicked 11 pts for Newport?s 11th successive win over their neighbours.

Ebbw Vale shot into a 7th minute lead when former Newport fly-half Scott Mitchell chipped over the the top for fullback Mark Meenan to score and Bryan Shelbourne to convert. Newport hit back when wing Nabaro stormed down the touch line and beat several tackles for a superb solo try. Shelbourne replied with a penalty but Nabaro scored another great try after Shane Howarth, Jason Forster and Paul Young all handled. Montgomery?s conversion made it 12-13 at HT.

Newport hit back in the 2nd half with 24pts in 12 minutes. Forster barged over after a strong run by Jon Pritchard, Montgomery landed a 53yd penalty and Nabaro completed his hat-trick for Montgomery to convert and Newport were out of sight. Forster then got his second try converted by Montgomery and ever popular prop Rod Snow scored Newport?s 6th try to the delight of a large Newport support on the terraces before Shelbourne got an injury time consolation try for Vale.
