On 29th October 1892 The Penny Illustrated Paper and Illustrated Times in its column THE WORLD OF PASTIME reported that

"Blackheath seem to stand a fair chance of becoming Champion Metropolitan Rugby Club."

"Newport added yet another to their long list of victories, Coventry this time being beaten to the tune of three goals and three tries to nothing. A match between Newport and Blackheath or London Scottish, or, better, matches with both, should draw large attendances in London."
