"Welcome Watsonians!"
"Famous Scottish Visitors to the Athletic Ground."
"To Newport Rugby enthusiasts, the visit of the Watsonians is as essential a feature of the Christmas round of enjoyment as the plum pudding, and to-day we extend heartiest welcome to the famous Scottish Club on their twenty-seventh visit to Rodney Parade."
"Since 1896, the Watsonians have played at Newport every Christmas time except for the war period, and during that long series of matches they have won only twice in 1904 by 1g. 2t. llpts., to 1t. 3pts., and in 1905 by 1t. 3pts. to nil - and drawn once - in 1903, when each side scored a try. But Newport have rarely had matters all their own way, and to-day we hope to see a classic game comparable with some of the past. This year the Watsonians have a particularly young side, and in the process of team building have not won so many victories as usual. Their best performance so far is the defeat of Heriots. They have won eight and lost four of their 12 games played, and scored 135pts. to 91."
"To-day we welcome back to the team Eddie Dowdall, who will play his first home game since his injury in the game with Moseley, and who was in brilliant form at Llanelly last week."
