"THE WATSONIANS."
"Ever since the Watsonians first visited Newport on January 1st, 1894, they have constituted the chief attraction of Newport's Christmas programme of matches. They are the only Scottish Club side we in Wales are privileged to see, and there is no denying that they have worthily upheld the tradition of Scottish Rugby on their annual visits here. We offer them once more the heartiest of welcomes."
"The great game the students of Watson's College, Edinburgh, put up against our team on Boxing Day last year is still fresh in our minds, and we remember that, though Newport won by 11. to nil, the Scots were perilously close to ending a long series of defeats sustained regularly at the hands of Newport since they last won in 1905. The only other time the Watsonians beat Newport was in the previous season, when the margin was the substantial one of 1 g. 2 t. (11 pts)., to 1t."
"The Watsonians are an older club than Newport, for they came into existence in 1872. Ever since their foundation they have concentrated essentially on team-work, and to such an extent that in days when they were signally successful their players were almost ignored by the Scottish International Selection Committee, because they were regarded as a "mechanical organisation"."
