"WELCOME WATSONIANS:"
"Great Scottish Team as Visitors To-day."
"To-day we start a wonderful holiday Rugby feast, for our Christmas matches are with three of the leading clubs of three Countries, England, Scotland and France."
"In a sense to-day's visitors are the most famous, for their fame in Scotland is on a plane with that of Newport, Cardiff and Swansea in Wales, and Blackheath and the Harlequins in England. Their history is a magnificent one, and the great teams they have sent down through the years to meet Newport have proved among the most popular visitors of the whole lot."
"It is thirty-five years ago since the Watsonians were first at Newport, and some of old followers of the game recall the wonderful fight they put up against the brilliant Newport team of T. C. Graham's day's. This game was on New Year's day, 1894, and Newport just managed to win by 1 goal to 1 try."
"Ever famed for their dashing forwards, the Watsonians have more than once given Newport a rude shock, but it is 24 years since they won on the Athletic Ground, and only twice has success come their way."
"Incidentally, the thirty matches which have been played by the clubs have all taken place at Newport with the exception of that in 1903, when Newport won in Edinburgh by 1 goal to nil."
"AN EARNEST APPEAL TO ALL RUGBY FOLLOWERS."
