From the match programme:-

"BACK TO CLUB MATCHES."

" "THE CLUB'S" ANNUAL GAME AT NEWPORT."

"The South African match over, we return to ordinary Club football, and to-day welcome Blackheath, old and honoured rivals, than whom no Club is worth a better reception at Newport, It is an old story how in the early days of Welsh Rugby invincible Newport ruled the roost, and at last challenged England's Champions. Blackheath accepted, came to Newport in 1879, and piled on 4 goals, 9 tries without a response from Newport. Those days of inferiority passed quickly, and through the years Newport have built up an amazing record against a Club which represents the best Rugby in England."

"Altogether the teams have met 71 times. Newport have won 54 games and Blackheath only 11. Newport have scored 93 goals, 131 tries to 47 goals, 51 tries."

"Blackheath's last victory was at Newport in the Jubilee Match in 1929, when they won by a try to nil. Newport drew the return match at Blackheath; won at Blackheath, in October, 1930, by 3 goals (1 d.g., 1 p.g.), 1 try, 15 pts. to 2 goals (1 d.g.), 9 pts., and at Newport in April this year by 3 goals, 6 tries, 33 pts. to 2 goals, 1 try, 13 pts."
