From the match programme:-

"TEAM OF COUNTY STARS."

"GLOUCESTER HAVE NOT WON  HERE SINCE 1883."

"Gloucester, who provided half the Gloucestershire side who last Saturday beat Durham and won the English Counties Championship for the third successive time, have many famous men. in their side this season, and they will take some beating."

"Among their best-known players are McCanlis, the former English international centre, Roy James, one of the best outside halves in the game to-day, and L. E. Saxby, who was in the English team that played against Wales at Swansea this season, and is a wily leader of a strong pack. Other Gloucester men who played in the County team were N.C. Sheppard, A. D. Carpenter and F. Wadley."

"This is the second meeting of the Clubs this season. On November 21st, at Gloucester, Newport won by a converted goal to nil - their second victory in succession at Kingsholm. Gloucester have not won at Newport since 1883, but the remarkable game of November, 1928, when Gloucester forced a draw of 19 pts. each, after looking like easy victims, will be readily recalled."

"Newport and Gloucester have been keen opponents since 1878, when, incidentally, Newport are recorded as having drawn, with a foot note to the effect that Newport scored a disputed try. There have been 86 games. Newport have won 61, and Gloucester 13. Twelve games have been drawn."
