"CROSS KEYS SEEK FIRST WIN AT NEWPORT."

"Having beaten the Monmouthshire League team with rather more ease than was expected, Newport face to-day's game with more confidence, but that Cross Keys will be a hard nut to crack goes without saying."

"It is, of course, a well-known fact that Cross Keys have never won on Newport Athletic Ground - a remarkable thing when we remember some of the grout teams Cross Keys have had since the war."

"In all there have been 24 games. Newport have won 14 and lost three, and seven have been drawn. Their first victory was that at Pandy Park in April, 1927, when they won by the very decisive score of 5  tries to nil. They beat Newport in March, 1929, by 3 tries to nil, and in April, 1931, by 2 tries to nil.   Drawn games were played in 1920 (twice), 1921, 1923, 1924, 1926, and 1930."

"Last season Newport won both games, though in both they had nothing to spare. In September the margin at Newport was 2 goals (1 p.g.), 8 pts. to 1 p.g., 3 pts., and in January at Cross Keys, 2 tries, 6 pts. to 1 p.g., 3 pts."

"Cross Keys have now to do without their magnificent pack leader, Steve Morris, who is now at Chepstow, but they are reputed to be very strong forward, and interesting personalities behind their scrum are A. D. Givvons, the coloured Pill boy, and S. J. Mountain and George Thompson, both former Newport players."

"Last Saturday Cross Keys were at St. Helen's, where they put up a great fight, and were only just beaten by Swansea by 3 goals (1 p.g.), 1 try, 16 pts. to 2 goals (1 p.g.), 1 try, 11 points."
