From the match programme:-

"CARDIFF AGAIN."

"PONTYPOOL'S CONQUERORS."

"Newport Supporters have confidence that the team will to-day show much more encouraging form than was the case in all the previous home games this season. There is no doubt that the team's play at Pontypool was infinitely better than anything they had achieved hitherto."

"It will be recalled that last Saturday Cardiff won at Pontypool by a converted goal to a try, and as Newport lost there by only a try to nil, form indicates a very close game to-day."

"This will be the 188th time for the Clubs to meet since that first game in far-off 1876. Of these games, Newport have won 80, lost 74, and drawn 33, scoring 145 goals and 164 tries to 128 goals and 155 tries."

"Last year's games will be vividly remembered, for once more Newport, after losing thrice, just managed to prevent Cardiff winning all four games. The final match went to Newport by 1 d.g., 2 tries, 10 pts. to 1 goal, 5 pts."

"Cardiff have certainly had the whip-hand of Newport in recent years, for since the Jubilee Match of 1925, Newport's victories have numbered only seven to Cardiff's 19. It is high time the tide turned."

"Cardiff are reputed to have a fine back division this season (their backs won the game for them at Pontypool), but they do not seem satisfied with their forwards."

"Cardiff have done well so far. They beat Bristol by 17 pts. to 8, though they could only share in a pointless draw with Bridgend."
