From the match programme:-

"FAMOUS   ALL BLACKS."

"Neath, our visitors to-day, have not won at Newport since 1908, but in recent years they have gone very close indeed, and, to balance matters, have won fairly regularly at The Gnoll."

"Every supporter's mind to-day will go back to that amazing match on December 19th last season, when the fog was so thick that few of the spectators saw any of the scores - two converted goals by Newport and a penalty goal by Neath, and only glimpses of a ghostly sort of game were possible. Neath, by the way, do not count that match in the records, but Newport do so on the authority of the referee."

"In the return game at Neath in April, Newport were well beaten by four tries to a dropped goal."

"Neath have a very fine side this season - quite recently they won at St. Helen's a few days before Newport's heavy defeat there - and it is a pity that the trial match to-day means that neither side can field at full strength. For that game, Newport have had to release Dick Ralph and two reserves, John Evans and Hywel Jones, and Neath are represented in the trial by Arthur Lemon and Glyn Prosser, forwards; and Gwyn Moore, a centre."

"In all, Newport and Neath have played 67 games. Newport have won 45, and lost 18."
