From the match programme:-
" "Revenge is sweet" - that must have been the feeling of the Cardiff players last Saturday when they defeated the redoubtable Heathens in the return game by 3 goals, 1 try (18 points) to a converted goal and a penalty goal (8 points), and thus fully avenged the first defeat of the season sustained three weeks ago at Blackheath. The revenge would not by any means be considered sweet, however, if it was not due solely to Cardiff's emphatic superiority in the best game of the season, and one of the most enjoyable displays witnessed for many years, vide several critics who attended. The Heathens with such renowned players in their midst were expected to make a great fight for it, but they were outmatched, out-played and outpointed, thanks to good generalship and good leadership by Tom Lewis; to an excellent service by Maurice Turnbull, and a spectacular all-round display by the contingent in the rear, capped by a rare individual triumph for A. H. Jones, who scored the four tries, and whose performance was brilliant. One commiserated with Graham Jones, who got across after a glorious one-man effort, but was ruled to have "dapped" the ball and not "grounded" it. This incident serves to illustrate the importance of seeing that hand, ball and ground come into contact after crossing the line. Anyhow, it was a game worthy of the occasion, and it is satisfactory, having to record that Cardiff were absolutely the better side."
"Can we hope for a similar exhibition of football this afternoon, when the Usksiders will have an opportunity of proving to us that their erratic form this season is not to be taken as a criterion of their real strength, and taking past occasions into account, it would be folly to under-estimate the capabilities of the young side which Newport are now placing in the field as a result of team-building and reorganisation which circumstances have forced upon the committee, co-incident with the lamentable departure of Jack Morley. However, Raymond Ralph, the Newport captain, is not one to be disspirited, and he has the knack of drawing out the best from his young colleagues, and if he has an inspired moment there is no knowing what difficulties the Cardiff defence might be in. A notable feature of this afternoon's game is the appearance in the Cardiff pack of an ex-Newport forward, D. E. J. Hughes, and the inclusion in the Newport side as scrum half of E. J. Parfitt, who earlier in the season played for the Cardiff Senior and Athletic sides. Both sides are expected to field at full strength, although many will doubtless wonder at the exclusion of Bill Roberts from the "Blue and Black's" side."
"Next Saturday we are in for a further treat when Neath appear on the Park, and there should be a fine attendance."
