From the match programme:-
"THE WIZARDS."
"Aberavon are a good team to open Newport's Christmas programme, for they are considered one of the best sides in Wales just now. It may be recalled that at the beginning of this season, when that fine forward, Ned Jenkins, the Welsh International, was given the captaincy, Aberavon took their courage in both hands, discarded many of their older players, and gambled on the younger element of the district. Their policy has been completely justified. The young team have a splendid record, and good judges say they are going to be a brilliant combination when they gain experience."
"Aberavon are old opponents of Newport, for their first appearance here was back in 1881, but there have been breaks in the fixtures, and altogether there have been only 18 games, 14 of which Newport have won and two lost."
"Aberavon's two victories followed each other. In November, 1924, they won at Newport by 2 goals, 10 pts. to 2 goals (1 d.g.), 9 pts., and in December of the next year they won at Aberavon by a goal from a mark and two tries to a try."
"Last season at Aberavon, Newport won by 1d.g., 2 tries, 10pts. to 2 tries, and at Newport by 1 p.g., 3 tries, 12 pts. to 1 try, 3 pts."
