From the match programme, including details of the annual supporters' outing to Bristol:-
"THE WATSONIANS."
"There are no clubs playing Rugby to-day on friendlier terms than Newport and the Watsonians, and Boxing Day would not be the same to us without the famous Scottish team here to provide the match as the tit-bit of the Christinas programme."
"Always they give us good fare and often a good fight, for generally these hardy Scots are remarkably difficult to beat. Last season there were only five points between the teams at the finish - Newport won by 1 goal, 3 tries, 14 pts. to 3 tries, 9 pt. s. - and it will be remembered that a penalty try was an unusual feature of the Watsonians' score."
"The previous match had been in Edinburgh, on January 1st, 1931, and the Scots won by 2 goals, 1 try, 13 pts. to 2 goals (1 p.g.) 8 pts."
"Altogether there have been 34 games, 29 of which Newport have won and three lost. The Watsonians won in successive seasons - in 1904 by 1 goal, 2 tries, 11 pts. to 1 try, 3 pts., and in 1905 by 1 try to nil, both at Newport."
"One of the biggest crowds at any Newport Club Match was that for the Watsonians' game in 1926, when a gate of £420 was taken."
"LUCKY NUMBERS."
"Our Lucky Programme Numbers to-day will be 4 double Tickets for the Pavilion Picture House for any night during the week. The selected numbers will be sent round on board at half-time. The persons holding the numbered programmes given for the Pavilion next week must produce same to the Secretary at Gymnasium immediately after the match, when each person will receive a Voucher for 2 seats."
"BOOTS" "BOOTS"
"YOUR help is required during the Holiday Games Watsonians and Bridgend"
"To Provide Boots for necessitous School Children"
"We are again (for the fifth year) organising these collections. The fund is being administered by the Newport Education Committee. There are no expenses, so that every coin subscribed goes direct to pay for Boots for these children."
"1928-29 a total of £48/14/0 was collected."
"1929-30 a total of £66/18/0 was collected."
"1930-31 a total of £54/0/0 was collected."
