From the match programme:-
"Newport and Cardiff meet to-day for the fourth time this season, and there is every prospect of a grueling, if not thrilling, game in view of the totally unexpected reverse which Cardiff sustained at Newport a fortnight ago. The Usksiders on that occasion relied to a great extent on their forwards while the backs so intensively marked the Cardiff rear line as to render the virile play of the Cardiff threequarters more or less ineffective. Few, however, begrudged Newport the victory, as it did them far more good than it did Cardiff harm, and the marked improvement in the play of the Usksiders during the last few weeks has been welcomed everywhere. There is no doubt that Cardiff will be out for their revenge this afternoon, and they have a formidable side out, the only notable exception being B. R. Turnbull, whose place is taken by that very promising threequarter, A. Colin Jones."
"Cardiff have fallen appreciably from the pinnacle they set themselves a few months ago - this was perhaps to be expected - but Tom Lewis and his colleagues have now a chance to retrieve themselves and the fortunes of the club, and one may naturally expect to see a revival in the general play of the side, commencing, it is to be hoped, with this afternoon's game. Newport will rely practically upon the same side that last defeated Cardiff, and this afternoon's issue will depend entirely upon the ability of their pack to dominate the game, as otherwise, the Cardiff backs should prove sufficiently superior to achieve the victory for their side."
"Last Saturday's weather, while causing disappointment in the non-fulfilment of the fixture with Pontypool, gave the players a welcome respite, particularly as Cardiff on the previous Thursday had played an extra game at Swansea, where they secured a rather unexpected win by a solitary try, scored by Daley, to nil. In that game the hero was Tommy Stone, who gave a marvellous exhibition, and was the outstanding player of both sides."
"A great dea! of interest is being centred in the selection of the Welsh team to play Ireland next Saturday, and which will be decided upon at Cardiff to-night. In view of the very poor exhibition given by the Welsh side against Scotland and the consequent destruction of all hopes of the Triple Crown this season, it would not be surprising to see many changes made, with the introduction of much new blood, with youth predominating."
"The Athletics have formidable opponents on the Park next Saturday in Aberaman, who this season are playing great football, and are running neck and neck with Mountain Ash for the Glamorgan League championship."
