"WATSONIANS AGAIN."
"The Watsonians and the Barbarians rival each other as the most popular touring combinations in Wales. Christmas brings the Watsonians, and their Boxing-Day match at Newport has always been regarded as the tit-bit of the holiday programme."
"Though the Watsonians rarely win at Newport - their successes number only five in the 41 games played since 1894 - almost invariably they put up a good show, and there have been many tight tussles. In 1934 they broke a long run of defeats by winning at Newport for the first time for 29 years - by 2g. 2t., 16pts., to 1p.g. 1t., 6pts., and they repeated that success in 1935, winning by 1t. to nil. They shared in a draw of ten points each in 1936, and last Christmas were defeated by 3g. (lp.g.), 13pts., to 2t., 6pts."
"Newport have played the Watsonians three times in Edinburgh, winning by lg., 5pts., to nil in 1903, losing by 2g. 1t., 13pts., to 2g. (lp.g.), 8pts., in 1931, and winning by 1g. 1t., 8pts., to 2t., 6pts., in 1934."
"The Watsonians are generally a good drawing team, and in 1926 an attendance of 10,000 paid £420 to see them at Newport."
"This season the Watsonians have several players who will be strong candidates for caps. They include G. Roberts, a brilliant full back, who helped Scotland to win the triple crown last season, and who declined an invitation to tour with the British team in South Africa."
