"Club Notes
"The Visitors."
"Newport, always welcome visitors at Stradey, provide the opposition this afternoon. Their playing strength has increased by the discovery of a new centre, and their record shows them to be a side on the up-grade. Both games last season resulted as drawn, but the game played at Uskside this season left Newport clear winners. The Scarlets, however, are showing signs of return to normal form, and it is hoped that both sides will give us a bright and pleasant game to the fullest extent that weather conditions will allow.
"Congratulations!"
"To Desmond Jones, the Scarlets' forward, upon being capped for Wales against England. Good boy, Desmond! We hope that this will not be the last, and that a colleague or so will join you ere the season ends."
"England v. Wales (Twickenham)."
"Supporters interested in this game and who would like to travel in the Supporters' Club Bus are advised to make enquiries at the Hut not later than to-day."
"THE LATE MR. DAVID HOWELL."
"It is with regret that we have to record our sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. David Ho well, whose tragic passing away, at the ripe old age of 80 years, caused such a shock throughout the district."
"Despite advanced years, Mr. Howell was active to a degree Jess enjoyed by many younger people - youthful in thought and in spirit - and was a "regular" at Stradey. He frequently travelled to see his beloved Scarlets in action."
"An old player himself, and having sound judgement of play and players based on a great knowledge of the game, Mr. Howell was the founder Chairman of the Rugby Supporters' Club, and occasionally looked in at the meeting of the Committee to see how things were progressing and to give advice where necessary."
"He was the oldest member of the Llanelly Rugby Football Club."
"His passing will be mourned by a host of friends, not only in the rugger world, but throughout the whole of Llanelly, where he was considered to be a very fine sporting gentleman."
