"NOTES"
"For their home game with Llanelly at the Athletic Grounds this afternoon, the selected Newport side shows only one change from that which drew with Neath last Saturday. R. T. Evans is playing for the British Police in Paris so that S. Kimpton comes in to the back row of the forwards."
"Interest in to-day's game will have been increased following Llanelly's defeat of Swansea last week. This surprising result, following Swansea's great achievement at Cardiff the previous Saturday, is evidence of renewed strength in the Llanelly ranks. With Newport, too, showing greatly improved form - they were most unfortunate not to have recorded a clear victory over Neath, which their play earned - it should be an extremely close and exciting game between two old rivals this afternoon. Of recent years, particularly, Newport and Llanelly meetings have provided much bright, open rugby, and given reasonable playing conditions no doubt such will be the order of the day to both teams this afternoon."
"The first two months of the season have certainly pointed to a marked levelling-up of the Welsh clubs. In no match can victory be almost an assured thing for a particular team, and while the Newport record at this early stage does not look impressive, it must be noted that all other Welsh clubs, too, are sustaining their share of defeats. This is all for the game's gocd, and as there has already been evidence in addition that this levelling-up process is spreading to English and Welsh Club meetings, the season ahead can certainly be viewed with even increased interest. In this connection it will have been noted that Newport and Cardiff have both already been twice defeated by English clubs this season, which at this stage, is certainly an exception."
"Hedley Rowland is making very good progress following his operation, and it is hoped that the Newport captain will shortly be able to leave 'hospital. Roy Burnett, too, is making a good recovery from his illness, but it will be a while still before he is fit enough to resume his place in the Newport side."
