From the match programme which includes a WRU notice regarding "binding":-
"Before Newport take the field for the opening game of the season against Pcnarth at the Athletic Grounds this afternoon, the British Touring Team will have completed their last match in Australia, and on Tuesday Ken Jones and R. T. Evans, captain and vice-captain elect of the Newport team this season, will commence their long journey home. (Incidentally, from time to time in our Programmes, we hope to print extracts of reports and impressions of the Tour from the New Zealand and Australian Press). In the meantime Roy Burnett will act as the Newport captain, and the choice is undoubtedly a wise and popular one. This young player should surely be destined for the highest honours in the game which will, in due season, include captaincy of the Newport side, and the experience he will gain during this month or so will be of great value to him. A successful and confident start to a season is the aim of all sides, and Ken Jones and R. T. Evans, whilst on the voyage home will follow closely the Newport fortunes during their early matches. They will have a confidence both in the leadership and ability of this Newport team which should not be confounded."
"Penarth, after winding-up last season's rugby at Newport, return to their rightful and customary place in the Newport programme. These stout-hearted opponents are always welcome at Rodney Parade."
"Weather conditions prevented Newport holding their Final Trial on Wednesday evening, and it is fortunate, therefore, that contrary to custom, the senior players had a run-out in the preliminary trials last Saturday. As expected, Newport's side for the opening match largely comprises last year's very good team. There are only two newcomers - W. Ewan, the former Watsonian player, now resident in this district, who will be tried at centre, and a new hooker in G. Thomas, a nineteen year old Carmarthen lad, an ex-Schoolboy International, who is now at Cardiff University. One other interesting feature of the Newport team will be the return on the right wing of Graham Ross, who was out of the game practically the whole of last season through injury."
"A further Trial match will be played immediately following today's match."

"COLLAPSING OF SCRUMMAGES."
"I have been directed by my Committee to bring to your notice the following instruction issued by the International Rugby Football Board."
"The International Board is greatly perturbed at the increasing tendency of scrummages to collapse. It feels that serious injury to players may result and that such collapsing is largely attributable to the failure of front row forwards to bind closely."
"The Board is of the opinion that close binding in the front row of the scrummage is essential to the playing of the game in its proper spirit and that malpractices have resulted from the lack of such binding."
"These malpractices will not be tolerated by the Board, and all clubs must instruct their players accordingly."
"My Committee call upon all Clubs in the Union to observe the above instruction very strictly, both in letter and in spirit, and at all times without exception."

"SUPPORTERS CLUB NEWS"
"We welcome the new season with the knowledge that all our old 'stars' are available for another campaign and several new friends are eagerly struggling for places in the teams."
"The selection of our tourists, Ken Jones and Bob Evans, as captain and vice-captain must surely meet with universal approval, because both are tremendously popular with the players and supporters."
"In their enforced absence, we are pleased that 'Everybody's Darling,' Roy Burnett, is carrying on, and wish him the 'Best of Luck.' "
"The Annual General Meeting will be held, at the Castle Hotel on Monday at 7.30 p.m., and everyone is invited to attend. Officers for the forthcoming season will be appointed."
"Our active business will commence with the Bristol match and we hope to make this a best ever year and top the 1000 membership mark."
"It is the intention that the Supporters hold a club night weekly when we can stage various forms of Social Evenings and where the Committee can be contacted re Outings, etc."
"The first Outing will be to Swansea, and all who travelled with us last season had very pleasant, and well organised journeys, at very reasonable prices."
"Now is the time to rally round. Make our club the best, and let its reputation match that of our famous team."
"To all of our teams we say, give us the same brand of Rugby that you gave us last year under 'Let' lones, Roger Wade and Arthur North, and we will give you all the vocal support we can at your away games, and we wish you all a successful and injury-free season."
