From the match programme:-
"OUR VISITORS"
"We welcome the famous Newport team to the Memorial Ground this afternoon and look forward to the usual exhibition of skilful, attacking Rugby we have come to expect from them as a matter of course. The Newport Club was formed in 1875 and for many years was considered to be the strongest in Wales and Monmouthshire."
"In recent post-war years, however, Cardiff were rightly regarded as the " team of all the talents," but events this season seem to indicate that Newport are returning to their former high estate, and the Bristol team this afternoon meets a side which has this season beaten Cardiff on two occasions and has not yet been defeated. There are four Cardiff v. Newport matches each season, and we shall look with interest for the remaining results in February and March."
"We recollect that the Usksiders went through the 1922/23 season without losing a match, but the Bristol game at Rodney Parade on Anril 21st, 1923. was a very close thing, the home team winning by a try to nil. The Newport Club has, of course, produced many international players, and we think we are right in saying that about ninety wearers of the Black and Amber have played for Wales! Such was the strength of the Club in the past that on one occasion, in the 1920's, it fielded a team consisting entirely of players who had represented their country. It was Bristol's privilege and task to meet this formidable combination which was, of course, made up mainly of Welsh players - the representatives of the other countries being E. Hammett (England), N. Macpherson (Scotland) and Dr. W. Roche (Ireland)."
"A PARTIAL RE-UNION"
"In case some members of the Bristol team to-day appear unfamiliar to spectators, we would explain that they are not new players, neither are they guest players. They are, in fact, old friends, some of whom, owing to the far too prolonged programme of County matches, have not played in a match on this ground since September 23rd! We had hoped to welcome all our exiles this afternoon, but four of them are taking part in the English Trial at Otley and they have our best wishes. Dick Honeywell, Eric Hopton, Don Woodward and Eric McCall cannot now appear for the First XV in a match on the Memorial Ground until December 23rd, i.e., three calendar months since their last game! This state of affairs is, of course, ridiculous, and we feel that in fairness to our members we shall have to make another request for County games to be arranged on a basis showing more consideration for the clubs."
"DATE TO REMEMBER"
"Bishopston and Cotham Park R.F.C.s are holding their combined Jubilee Dance at the Victoria Rooms on Friday, December 8th, from 7.30 p.m. to 1 a.m. The M.C. will be Jack Gregory, and tickets at 6/-each may be obtained from Duck, Son and Pinker, Queen's Road, or any Club member."
