From the match programme:-
"Newport bids traditional welcome to The Watsonians on their annual Boxing Day visit to The Athletic Grounds. Report has it that the Scotsmen are bringing their strongest side to Wales for many years. This is interesting, particularly as it cannot be recalled that any Watsonian side visiting Newport have been other than strong, worthy opposition. Their team, to-day, includes in the threequarter line, G. T. Ewan, brother of 'Bill' Ewan, who has been seen in the Newport colours once this season, but since has had such a succession of injury and unfitness that he has, as yet, had little opportunity to enjoy his football with the Newport Club."
"Newport's strongest side is published for to-day's game, and barring accident or injury in the week-end football, will field as selected."
"The Club has granted permission to the Y.W.C.A. to make a collection at the match this afternoon. The Y.W.C.A. is having a difficult struggle to keep open, and it is felt that Newport Sportsmen would not like to see them fail in the good work they are doing in providing Hostel and Club facilities for the young people of Newport. The Committee of the Y.W.C.A. wish to thank all who are supporting this collection - the Athletic Club, the Boys who have volunteered to collect, and our Supporters to whom they are looking for generous contribution towards their worthy cause."
"Both the Watsonian and Newport teams will attend the annual Boxing-night Dance in the Club Gymnasium this evening and, presumably, as usual, the Band will assist their vocal efforts for Dancing! We doubt if there are any Tickets left, but Club members requiring are advised to try and seek out Joe Warwick after the match - probably as difficult a task as obtaining a Ticket. At the Dance to-night, by the way, Monmouthshire County Caps are to be presented to R. T. Evans and Hedley Rowland. Our half-backs, Roy Burnett and W. A. Williams have also earned this honour, but their awards are not yet through."
"This is the last home game of 1950. Our Supporters will join us in congratulations to the Newport team on their success and, above all their grand observance of the spirit of the game. The same Rugby in 1951, Newport, please! Sjmply, that is all we ask."
"SUPPORTERS CLUB NEWS"
"We have now reached the turn of the year, and with it the festive season."
"We take this opportunity of wishing our 3 Teams a very happy Christmas and continued success in the New Year. This, of course, is written before the results of December 23rd are known, but we hope that our records will not be marred on that date."
"We would like to incorporate our annual visitors from Scotland in our season's greetings, because Boxing Day would not be complete in Newport without the hilarity of our friends, the Watsonians."
"Our first Dance of the season was quite a success socially, but unfortunately, the weather was the worst experienced so far this year and severely restricted the attendance."
"However, further activities are being planned for January and will be notified to the public very shortly."
"Plans are going ahead for the opening of a refreshment bar on the ground for the serving of hot drinks, etc.. during and before the games."
"This is a service that has been lacking since the war, and we hope one which will be appreciated and patronised for all Supporters and visitors."
