From the match programme:-
"The fourth and final meeting of the season between Cardiff and Newport at Rodney Parade to-day promises to be a great occasion in the annals of both Clubs. Following the game at Cardiff a fortnight ago, witnessed by the largest crowd ever to attend a Club match in this country, interest has been so intense in the final meeting that "all Tickets" has had to be the order of the day. Such was the demand that by noon on Tuesday all Tickets had been sold, and it is almost certain, therefore, that a capacity crowd will represent a record gate at Newport for to-day's match."
"Whereas in actual fact the present standard of play of both Clubs should be sufficient in itself to warrant such interest, the demands of human nature are met by the records which will be maintained or broken at this season's fourth encounter. Newport, of course, defend an undefeated record of 26 victories in 26 matches played; Cardiff defend a record of never having been beaten four times in a season by Newport in the long history of meetings between the Clubs."
"Both Clubs will receive with pride the congratulatory messages which the Welsh Rugby Union have expressed to them following the game at Cardiff Arms Park a fortnight ago. Records are still at stake, but there is no shadow of doubt that both teams will, in to-day's match, live up to the reputation which has earned such honour from the Headquarters of Welsh Rugby. We cannot demand better rugby or a grander spirit than witnessed in that recent meeting, but we will be forgiven if we hope for vastly improved conditions for the playing of the game to-day."
"We go to press before the Welsh Union publish their side for the International at Cardiff a week to-day, but providing their selection does not disturb team arrangements, and that minor injuries among the threequarters have yielded to treatment, Newport will field at full strength, and as at Cardiff in the last game."
"Cardiff will be without Rex Willis, for whom H. Greenslade deputises, but otherwise will be at full strength. Alun Thomas, the former Swansea outside-half or centre is preferred to D. Murphy on the wing, while Malcolm Collins who missed the last Newport game through injury returns to the pack."
"SUPPORTERS CLUB NEWS"
"For the Fourth and Final Time this Season we greet our Friends from Cardiff, and we know that our retorts will be just as amiable as ever. Naturally, we are sure that in this extra Welsh Trial, our lads will be fully capable of taking a further record (that of licking Cardiff 4 times in one season) in their stride, and we are also certain that John Lane, Bryn Williams, Roy Burnett, Tom Sterry and "Ackers" will be bidding for those "A. N. Others." Good playing boys, and Congrats, as usual to Ken and Bob."
"Don't forget these dates. To-night, the Federation of Rugby Supporters' Clubs, are holding their Annual Dinner at the Great Western Dining Rooms, Station Approach. The price is 8/-. and members of the Welsh Rugby Union have promised to attend, also Mr. R. T. Gabe. If you would like to join members from Newport, Cardiff, Pontypool, Ebbw Yale, Cross Keys, Risca. etc., and enjoy a good evening's entertainment, come along and give your name at the Canteen after to-day's game."
"On March 17th. we are running a trip to the Harlequins v. Newport game, and also the England v. Scotland match at Twickenham. A few vacancies only remain. Price of 32/- includes Coach and 3 meals. First come, first served. Names to Mr. Bailey at the Canteen. On Tuesday next, we are visiting the Commercial Inn for a Social Evening at 7 p.m. You are cordially invited."
As for the game itself it was not to be - an all ticket crowd witnessed the end of Newport's run of 35 consecutive victories and denied Newport the much sought after four victories over Cardiff in a season.

The Times of Monday, 5th March 1951 reported the game briefly, with an article headline suggesting incorrectly that the game was played at Cardiff:-
"NEWPORT DRAW AT CARDIFF"
"An all-ticket crowd of 27,000, including members of the Welsh Rugby Union selection committee, saw Newport held to a draw of a penalty goal (3 points) each by Cardiff at Newport on Saturday. It was the first time in 36 successive games - 27 this season - and nine at the end of the 1949-50 campaign - that Newport had failed to win. Moreover, the result deprived Newport of beating their old rivals four times in a season, a feat they have never yet accomplished."
"A draw proved a fair reflection of a desperately keen match in which the defences predominated. Newport took the lead after two minutes through B. Edwards, who landed a penalty goal from halfway, but eight minutes later W. E. Tamplin kicked a similar goal for Cardiff."
