From the match programme:-
"Some weeks ago, Jack Davis (Specto), in the "Football Argus," made the suggestion that the final match of the 1950/51 season, due to be played at Crosskeys, should be transferred to Newport. Principally, he had in mind the great crowd interest of this encounter, when supporters from all parts of Monmouthshire may pay final tribute to this great Newport side in the season which ends to-day. The suggestion was followed up by both Clubs, and hence the appearance of Crosskeys at Rodney Parade this afternoon."
"Although, during the intervening period since the decided change of venue for this game, Newport have twice been defeated by a penalty goal, the principal remains unaltered; it is, indeed, twofold. It must be remembered that in such a season as Newport have experienced, when their success has been the focal point of interest throughout the County, "gates" of the smaller Clubs must suffer through Newport's success. This has had its bearing on the Crosskeys Club, who will receive the total net receipts from to-day's match. Newport are always mindful of the part Crosskeys play, not only in the production of players who, through long years have rendered the greatest service to the Newport Club, but also for the spirit in which they keep the game flourishing in the Valleys of Monmouthshire. It is a sincere wish that to-day's match will benefit their finances."
"Newport enter on their last game with, but two defeats and one draw in 39 matches played. This is a team that have never had "invincibility" as their goal. Perhaps, therefore, it is only justice that it has not been attained. The side's object has, instead, been to play football with all the skill and pleasure which cleverness, team spirit and training can thus build up. How richly, then, have these great players who have worn the Newport Jersey this season attained their real object, and how proudly and readily do we pay tribute to them on their final appearance in a season which has made the oldest of us feel young again."
"SUPPORTERS CLUB NEWS"
"To-day, we have the last opportunity, at home, of paying tribute to the lads who have given us such superb entertainment this year."
"In cold print, our 1st Fifteen have the best playing record of all First Class Clubs, but they have also been generally acclaimed by all the leading writers as the best exponents of the bright open Rugby that all crowds look for."
"The United did not retain their invincibility this year, because of one lapse at Crumlin. Surely this is an exceptional record, and a triumph for Team-work."
"While the two Senior Teams have been gaining the plaudits of the crowd, the 'Lousys' have been going steadily forward, and with to-day's game against Senghenydd ending in victory, will achieve that invincibility that the United had last year."
"To all teams we say on behalf of all Supporters - "thank you very much and may you continue in the same vein next season". "
"On Monday, a very large crowd is anticipated at Pontypool, and it is expected that several coaches will be run for this Jubilee Game."
"Bookings should be made at the Bowls Pavilion immediately after to-day's match."
"To enable quick access to Pontypool Park tickets will be on sale to-day, at all entrances."
