From the match programme:-
"NOTES."
"In many quarters the early season opinion has been expressed that the "new look" Swansea XV might well prove to be the team of the year. With a particularly strong, lively pack of forwards and a back division comprising several young players rich in promise, their recent display at Cardiff, and a "tear-away" victory over Bristol last Saturday, certainly add belief to such opinion."
"To-day's game, therefore, at Rodney Parade, holds promise of even more interest than usual - and this is always great for Swansea and Newport meetings - and may certainly prove a guide to both sides on the "settling down" progress of teams who have a stern programme ahead, including, of course, each with fixtures against the touring South Africans."
"Newport won both last season's matches - at St. Helens by 13 points to 6, while the return fixture, on a very wet evening in April, provided an extremely good game and the second Newport victory by 10 points to nil."
"Newport have selected the same side as for the opening game at Bristol, which means that Glyn Davies - playing last Saturday in the Festival match at Blackheath - returns to the centre, but a late change brings in R. D. Owen, who plays on the wing in place of G. Ross, who is on the injured list."
"The venue of next Monday evening's game against Newbridge has been reversed, and will now take place at Newport, kick-off 5.30 p.m. In making their request for this alteration, Newbridge pointed out that large arrivals of steel for the erection of their new Grand Stand had made their ground unsafe to accommodate the anticipated big crowd. The Newport Committee readily agreed to their request, and decided that the entire proceeds of the match (including Programme receipts, incidentally) should go to the Newbridge Club. All Club Members and Season Ticket Holders will pay for admission on this occasion. Members with reserved seats in the Stand will be able to claim them as usual up to the time of the kick-off. A really good crowd on Monday evening would ensure the Newbridge Club of considerable financial assistance."
"And in case our announcement was missed last Saturday, we repeat our regrets that the rise in costs of paper and printing has made it necessary to increase the price of our Programmes this season to THREEPENCE. Prices of admission, and for all other facilities offered by the Newport Athletic Club, remain unaltered."
"SUPPORTERS' CLUB NEWS."
"Once again the team are getting into their stride, and are "whetting our appetites" for further good things to come."
"Owing to change of venue, our forthcoming trip to Newbridge is now cancelled for Monday next, but we call Supporters' attention to the fact that we want all the support we can get for our visit to Llanelly on Saturday next. The 'Scarlets' on their own ground are amongst our stiffest adversaries and this season being strengthened by the great Lewis Jones, will be more formidable than ever. Our trip will only cost 7/6d., so come along and give your vocal support and help our boys preserve their record. Bus leaves the Club at 12.00 mid-day. Now come along to the Bowls' Pavilion after this game and book your seat. We always have a good time."
"On Thursday next, we have been given permission to stage a Whist Drive in the Gymnasium. Have you secured your ticket yet? Price 1/6d. from any Committeeman or at the Bowls' Pavilion. Good Prizes."
"A reminder. Our Canteen is available for your wants. Why not try us sometime? We can give you good light refreshments."
"Club cards are now available whereby you can pay a deposit on any of our trips. Don't forget our Annual Outing to the Wasps and our Devon Tour. Place your Deposits to-day."
"We are very pleased to report record sales of Badges, even at this early date. After one Home Match, we have already 850 people registered as members. This is certainly going to be a record year. We are pleased to report members as far afield as New Zealand, South Africa, Germany and many parts of Great Britain."
"Have you purchased yours? Do so before you are disappointed. We are past halfway already."
