From the match programme:-
"NOTES."
"There will be few regrets at the surrender of Newport's unbeaten record at so early a stage in the season, although its retention almost to the end of last season certainly had no adverse affects on the play of the team. But it must be remembered that Newport Rugby last season was unique and did not follow any accepted pattern. Furthermore, not having been beaten by any Welsh Club since March, 1950, the strain on this Newport side, which has not yet settled down this season to the form which it is known to be capable, would be an increasing one, and defeat by a better side at Cardiff is accepted - and will be remedied."
"First English visitors to Rodney Parade this season, there is always a warm welcome for the attractive Blackheath Club. They are Newport's oldest opponents amongst the English sides now being met, and their meetings are traditional. Like most London Clubs, Blackheath start their season later than the Welsh Clubs and it is early, therefore, to judge their strength at this stage of the season. Their victory by 14 points to 8 over Birkenhead Park last Saturday, however, suggests that they are already in stride, and there should certainly be a feast of open football and good play this afternoon."
"Newport, in the side selected for to-day's match, make only one change from the team defeated at Cardiff. Bryn Williams is not available for selection through business reasons, and R. D. Owen will, therefore appear on the right wing. There is better news of the injured Newport players. Both Ken Jones (who will be making his first appearance of the season) and Graham Ross hope to play for the United side against The Medicals at Cardiff to-day, while Geoff Hirst, nursing a leg injury since the Swansea game, expects to resume training next week."
"Are the players of Newport and other Clubs thoroughly acquainted with the revised Laws of the Game, particularly affecting the front row of the scrummage? In the six games played to date, 12 penalty goals have been recorded - seven for Newport, and five against. Admittedly some of Ben Edwards' efforts have been prodigious, but against that one could instance several reasonable 'shots' missed by Newport's opponents to date."
"SUPPORTERS' CLUB NEWS."
"After the surprise and 'hurly burly' of last week's epic at the Arms Park, we now look forward to a return to the delightful open Rugby that has been the characteristic of our Team."
"The invincible record has gone for another year and could not have gone to a better Club. Our congratulations to both teams on a very clean, hard, sporting game."
"Those of us who stayed in Cardiff were regaled in song by our friends of the Cardiff Supporters' Club, and we are looking forward to reciprocating on their visit to us."
"What we would like, however, is a theme song. Is there any Supporter who could write us a rousing song or parody, so that we can burst forth and make our presence felt? See what you can do in your spare time, and let one of the officials have your effort."
"We would like to take this opportunity of thanking those amongst you who made our Whist Drive so successful, and especially to the Club Committee for kindly lending us the Gymnasium."
"The Badges have been a huge success and we are now down to our last 200. You had better move fast if vou have not yet obtained one. Mr. Povvell and his helpers are near all the entrances."
"Booking has already started for the Wasps' Outing, our annual effort, and also for the Tour in Devon. Are you going? Of course! Then why not come and book at the Bowls' Pavilion after the game. We are always pleased to see vou."
"In conclusion, may the Springboks keep their 'head' until they meet us. We have already had an offer to make another case, and, of course, we shall see, we hope, 'The Boot' versus 'The Hoot and Half,' to settle a private championship in kicking ability."
