From the match programme:-
"Our Visitors"
"We take great pleasure in welcoming Newport to Herne Hill as our opponents this afternoon. Members will recall that our home match with Newport last year had to be abandoned by reason of fog. This was a bitter disappointment, as the game, as far as it was played, promised well. Newport's record of the past few years is too well known to require comment and we confidently anticipate some sparkling Rugby this afternoon."
"Our visitors' side is at strength, the three quarter line of Ken Jones, Malcolm Thomas, Glyn Davies and Lane, together with the Burnett-Williams partnership at half back should keep our men on their toes."
"The Welsh Pack played very well at Bristol last week, they will have, to maintain that form to hold the formidable pack that Newport are fielding this afternoon."
"Our members will recognise an old friend in the referee this afternoon. Arthur Rees really needs no introduction to Herne Hill, but this, I believe, is the first time he has appeared here in the capacity of referee. There could not be a more appropriate occasion for his debut on our home ground, we trust that we shall be seeing Arthur here on more occasions from now on."
