From the match programme:-

"IT is with great  pleasure that  we  welcome to  the  Rectory Field to-day an outstanding Welsh Rugby side."

"It is always a joy to watch Welshmen playing Rugby and from Newport to-day comes a team worthy to rank with the greatest of club sides. Blackheath and Newport have met regularly since their first encounter on 20th November, 1879, and on the whole Newport have had the better of the exchanges. It is pleasant to recall that two great Newport players of the early years of this century subsequently played for and captained Blackheath, viz. J. E. C. Partridge and R. T. Skrimshire."

"We shall be specially interested in watching Ken Jones who played so brilliantly against England at Twickenham last month. Not only is he an oustanding footballer but also an Olympic runner, competing in the 100 metres at Wembley in 1948. They also bring other Internationals in M. Thomas and their great forward Ben Edwards, one of the best Welsh place-kickers of the day."

"With Blackheath showing improvement in every match the game should provide splendid entertainment."
