From the match programme:-
"NOTES"
"Newport open a most attractive Easter home programme with a visit from Aberavon this afternoon. There will be a particularly warm welcome for the West Wales side because, although the Clubs met regularly in pre-war years, this will be the first fixture with Aberavon since the war. For many seasons now, Aberavon have been one of the consistently strong sides of the West, and with both teams aiming to play good, open football this afternoon, the need for a regular resumption of meetings between the Clubs will become apparent."
"Newport are not at full strength for to-day's game, and will again be without their captain and vice-captain. Roy Burnett is chosen in the Barbarians side playing at Cardiff, and although Peter Davies stands down again following his illness, it is hoped that he will be able to turn out in the remaining holiday games. With R D. Owen on tour with the Bank XV, Bryn Williams again plays at outside-half, and his partner. Billy' Williams, captains the side. Following their great victory at Gloucester, Newport will be a confident side, anxious to maintain to the end of the season the very excellent record returned to date."
"Prior to to-day's match the Semi-finals of the Monmouthshire Secondary Schools 'Seven-a-Side' Tournament will be played, and the Final will follow immediately after the Senior game. This should prove most attractive fare, the first match being timed to commence at 2 45 p.m."
"JUNIOR RUGBY"
"On Thursday, April 16th, Newport and District Junior Rugby Union will play off their two Cup Finals - the W. J. Wall Cup and the Newport Junior Cup. The Newport Athletic Club have again granted us the use of their Ground. Of the 4 teams competing, 3 are newcomers. In the W. J. Wall Cup Final, Risca Athletic (the holders) will be opposed by Newport St. Julian’s H.S.O.B. 2nds. The kick-off will be 5.20 p.m. Mr. A. Williams (Newport Junior Union) will referee this game In the Newport Junior Cup, Pontypool United will oppose Tredegar Ironsides. These teams are new entrants and both have defeated 3 teams to reach the final; Tredegar having won 3 games at home, and Pontypool 3 games all away, so a good game is anticipated. The Referee will be Mr. Vernon Parfitt (Welsh Rugby Union), Newport, and the kick-off will be at 6.45 p.m."
Admission, both games, One Shilling."
