From the match programme:-
"NOTES"
"The Barbarians, at Newport this afternoon, provide the outstanding event of the Rugby season, and this attraction not only closes the Holiday Programme, but is also the last Newport home game of the season. The Newport record against the most famous of all Touring sides is particularly good in the post-war years, and only twice - in seasons 1946/47 and 1948/49 - have they been beaten. Last season, winning by 8 points to 3, Newport gained their third victory in successive seasons. Anyway, enough of records and - welcome the Barbarians!"
"Prior to to-day's match, given reasonable weather conditions, Newport Schoolboys entertain Amman Valley Schoolboys. During the following Senior match, a collection will be organised in aid of Newport Schools' Rugby, and we feel certain our Supporters will respond as generously as possible to what is wholly a Rugby cause."
"Although to-day sees the close of the Newport home matches there are two attractive fixtures for Supporters to note at Rodney Parade. On Saturday next, April 11th, the Monmouthshire Youth XV will play Somerset Youth XV. The playing of County Rugby is an innovation as far as Youth Rugby is concerned. For this game membership covers admittance to the Ground. On the following Saturday, April 18th, the Wales v. Scotland Schools' Rugby International will be staged, kick-off 3.30 p.m. Newport provide three players to the Welsh XV. This game is certain to attract a large crowd, and, of course, in this instance Club Members pay for admission to the Ground. On both Saturdays, Newport United games, as on the Fixture List, follow these matches."
"JUNIOR RUGBY"
"On Thursday, April 16th, Newport and District Junior Rugby Union will plav off their two Cup Finals - the W. J. Wall Cup and the Newport Junior Cup. The Newport Athletic Club have again granted us the use of their Ground. Of the 4 teams competing, 3 are newcomers. In the W. J. Wall Cup Final, Risca Athletic (the holders) will be opposed by Newport St. Julian's H.S.O.B. 2nds. The kick-off will be 5.20 p.m. Mr. A. Williams (Newport Junior Union) will referee this game. In the Newport Junior Cup. Pontypool United will oppose Tredegar Ironsides. These teams are new entrants and both have defeated 3 teams to reach the final; Tredegar having won 3 games at home, and Pontypool 3 games all away, so a good game is anticipated. The Referee will be Mr. Vernon Parfitt (Welsh Rugby Union), Newport, and the kick-off will be at 6.45 p.m."
"Admission, both games, One Shilling."
