From the match programme:-
"It is unfortunate that there should be such a clash of interests again to-day, when Coventry play at Rodney Parade, because in addition to the England and Wales match at Twickenham there will also be a pre-view of the All Blacks at Pontypool. This fixture of the Tourists is not well arranged. Coventry and Newport always meet on this International day, and it is such an attractive fix ture that it deserves an effort to avoid such clash when fixtures between the Clubs are next reviewed."
"Newport, of course, are not at full strength to-day. Graham Ross again deputises for the captain, at Twickenham, and R. D. Owen continues for Roy Burnett, who will almost certainly be fit for the All Blacks' game on Thursday. In the forwards, Bryn Meredith takes over the hooking for Lyn Davies, who travels to Twickenham as reserve, while G. Keeley and Harold Davies complete the front row. Dick Sheppard, injured, is replaced by M. Quartley, and a positional change switches J. Hererra to the second row and L. H. Jenkins to lock. Although, like Newport, Coventry's record to date is not their usually impressive one, they will certainly be making a big effort to gain their first postwar victory at Rodney Parade. Newport were defeated at Coventry on the corresponding date last season by 9 points to 3." "The kick off at next Thursday's match with New Zealand has been advanced to 2.30, and this quarter of an hour's grace may well be welcome to a large number of followers, particularly in the Valleys. Field and Enclosure Tickets arc-stil! on sale, and sales will continue up to the time of kick-off on Thursday, if supplies are not taken up earlier. And, finally, BEWARE OF 'PIRATE' PROGRAMMES. They are expensive and worthless. There will be plenty of official sellers with the official Programmes outside the grounds. They will be priced Sixpence, recognisable on the usual amber paper with Rugby posts on the front page."
