"NEWPORT. This word, which represents one of the finest Rugby Clubs in the world, conjures up many wonderful games played on the County Ground and a host of happy memories. Some of the greatest names in Rugby Football have appeared on their programmes and one of them is still there, K. Jones, their International wing has appeared in 35 Internationals and has been chosen as Captain of the Welsh side to meet France next Saturday. The fixture with Exeter has been of long standing and many happy friendships have been formed. So we give them a very hearty and warm welcome to-night."
"Exeter will field the same side as played the Wasps in London last Saturday. The team did fairly well in London but missed many good opportunities of winning the game."
"Now we face a very heavy programme to finish the season and shall require big efforts from the team to cope with our talented visitors."
"Members of our Club will have heard with deep regret, of the death of Mr. Percy Hodge, who, at his death, was a member of the D.R.F.U. Committee and Referee Appointments Secretary. In his day he was one of the finest stand-off halves in the Country and a great Rugby enthusiast to the end. Jimmy Peters and D. Lillicraps, respectively Devon stand-off and full-back, have also died in the last fortnight. Jago and Peters, the Devon halves, were household words way back in Devon's Hey Days."
