From the match programme:-

"NEWPORT  in rugger circles is a name to conjure with and we are especially glad to welcome them at the Rectory Field so early in the season.   With such players as Ken Jones, Malcolm Thomas and Roy Brunett[sic] to choose from, we always expect great things of Newport and with the much improved form of the Club shewn at Birkenhead Park we expect the ' hundred-and-third ' encounter between the Clubs to live up to the tradition (started in 1879) of ' flinging the ball about.' "

"We would like to congratulate the seven of our Ist XV who have been selected to play for Kent against Middlesex at the Rectory Field next Wednesday, October 13th."

"PLAYERS OF THE PAST. Brigadier H. L. Glyn Hughes joined the Club in 1910. Except for the periods of the two world wars (in the first of which he gained a D.S.O. and two M.C's, in the second another D.S.O. at Arnhem). 'Hughie' has been an active member continuously to date. Playing in the Front rank, he could hook or prop and during his playing career gained a Barbarian and Devon cap. Treasurer of the Barbarians, he has been President of Blackheath since 1950. We hope he will be with the Club for many years to come."
