"NOTES"
"Newport conclude a most attractive Xmas Holiday Programme with the visit of Ebbw Vale to Rodney Parade this afternoon. The rise to eminence of the Western Valley Club over these last seasons, has been the outstanding event in Monmouthshire Rugby. Playing at Newport for the first time for many years, in December of last season, they played brilliantly to defeat Newport by 16 points to 5. Coming on to the Cardiff list early this season they were narrowly defeated in what could have been a great game, and which either side could have won. High is the interest, therefore, in to-day's meeting. For Ebbw Vale, the ambition to repeat last season's achievement, for Newport, a reversal of that result. It is widely acknowledged that the success of Ebbw Vale over past years has been built up on the playing of attractive and open Rugby. Neither side will depart from their ideas of the game this afternoon, anxious as each may be for victory."
"At the time of going to press, no official derails of either selected side are available. It would be of great interest if Arthur Edwards were in the Ebbw Vale team this afternoon, in which case both the full-backs for next Saturday's Final Welsh Trial would be in opposition. And we hope we shall be able to give a further special cheer for Ben Edwards, the former Newport forward, and still a giant in the Ebbw Vale ranks."
"Next Saturday, Newport are away to Newbridge, and on that day Garfield Owen, Ken Jones and Bryn Meredith will be taking part in the Welsh Trial. We wish them well in this final stage to International honours and, also, to Jack Hancock, similarly seeking his England Cap from the Final English Trial at Twickenham on the same afternoon."
