From the match programme:-
"CARDIFF v. NEWPORT"
"It is unfortunate that today’s final clash of the season with our close rivals and near neighbours should take place on the day when Wales play Ireland."
"Both sides have representatives in Ireland but Cardiff suffer most with six of their players appearing in the red jersey and one of their number standing by as reserve. Normally, the fixtures between the two clubs are so arranged that the dates do not clash with International Fixtures but on this occasion the Wales v. Ireland Match was fixed for a week earlier than usual. However, both sides have strong reserve strength and we feel certain that the standard of rugger on view today will not suffer."
"It gives the Cardiff Club the greatest possible pleasure to congratulate the three new "caps" from Cardiff Club who are playing for Wales this afternoon. There can be no finer clubmen in Wales than Alun Priday, John Evans and Howard Nicholls who represent all that is good in Welsh Rugger and they have fully earned the great honour of playing for their country. We wish them and their colleagues a happy and successful game today."
"Cardiff have not been defeated by a Welsh side this season and Newport will no doubt hope to end this record. Of the three matches played between the two clubs the Blue and Blacks have won one, with two drawn. It is significant that in all three matches the highest score by either side has been three points. If the weather is kind today it is quite likely that the points scored will exceed the total scored in the previous three matches."
"We should like to draw the attention of our supporters to the visit of the Cardiff First XV to Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd on Monday, 21st April when they play a Mid-District XV in an effort to raise funds for the widow of the late Mike Fitzgerald, the Cardiff player who died so suddenly last Summer. Mike had been playing for the Club right up to the end of the previous season and we hope that our patrons will support this worthy cause by purchasing tickets, even though they may not be able to attend the game. Tickets are on sale today from kiosks at the entrances to the Arms Park or after today, from the Club Offices."
