From the match programme;-
"NOTES."
"To-day we play the last home game until Boxing Day. The corresponding game last year was cancelled, but at Leicester we won by 9 pts. to 8 pts. Norman Morgan notched two penalty goals and Malcolm Thomas scored a try, whilst the "Tigers" scored a penalty and a converted goal. Leighton Jenkins our skipper of last season is a regular member of the Leicester pack and is also the County captain. It is unfortunate and disappointing that J. P. Horrocks-Taylor (Cambridge and England) and A. J. F. O’Reilly (Old Belvedere and Ireland) are otherwise engaged to-day. These two fine players and no strangers to this ground. They were both in M.R. Steel-Bodgers' XV that defeated Cambridge University last Wednesday. Our visitors' skipper is J. S. Swan who has already collected seventeen "caps" for Scotland. On Thursday Leicestershire defeated Warwickshire and five Leicester players were included."
"Leicester and Bristol (next week’s opponents) are the two guest teams for the Middlesex Sevens to be played at Twickenham on April 25th, 1959. Last Saturday, Leicester made a draw at Moseley sharing twelve points. Their record this season reads won 6, drawn 2, lost 6 with 152 pts. for and 116 pts. against. Congratulations to John Rainforth on being awarded his Cambridge Blue. John has assisted our United XV often when on vacation."
"Bryn Meredith has commenced light training but John Phillips is still on the sick list. Graham Bevan has filled the breach very efficiently and we are lucky to have hookers of such calibre available. Norman Morgan after a run out with the United resumes at full-back and Malcolm Thomas returns to the left wing. Ian Ford who was not available for Wednesday’s game returns to the second row."
"The floodlight game against Penarth in mid-week produced our first drawn game of the season."
