From the match programme:-
"NOTES."
"Holiday touring sides always bring along with them a spirit which is contagious to their opponents and spectators. The approach is up-lifting to all. The Watsonians excel in this particular brand of medicine and the dose they always administer is particularly pleasant because every Boxing Day we eagerly await our "physic." They have a hard tour in South Wales, but reputation mean nothing to them, so when they take the field it is just another game to be played as only they know how. Both sides are already well acquainted from former tours, but this season the friendships can be further strengthened because we shall be playing them again on New Year’s Day in Scotland. It is proposed to fly up next Wednesday, play Thursday, and return on Friday."
"Bryn Meredith had a run out with the United last Saturday, after his long illness, and it is hoped he will lead his side once again during the holiday period."
"At the commencement of the season Roy Burnett needed to play twenty-three more games to dispose George Boots as record holder of most appearances for Newport. He made a late start due to injury and so far has only played in six games, but the honour is now within his grasp."
"Generally at this period the nucleus of the Welsh team is apparent, and the only speculation is for the odd places, but this season with no commanding figures to build the team around it may well be decided on this week’s holiday form."
"Tribute was paid to John Phillips at the close of last season when he retired from the game. His regard for the club and his big heart was enough to draw him back when Bryn Meredith and Graham Bevan were indisposed. When he saw that Bryn was on the mend and Graham was ready for "blooding" he gracefully stepped down. Once again John, thank you very much and if you really want to hang up your boots we trust that your generosity will not have to be prevailed upon again."
"Tomorrow we play Crosskeys on this ground. Kick-off 2.30 p.m."
"HAPPY NEW YEAR."
