From the match programme:-

"Our visitors today are the powerful Newport XV. After an indifferent start to the season they have developed into a very formidable combination. Ironically enough it is one of our former three-quarters who is the main spring of their attack, namely Gethin Evans, who is partnered by our own Billy Watkins and so it seems Newbridge's loss is Newport's gain."

"WELCOME PORT."

"To the Bridge we say:- our recent Bristol encounter was a real cracker-jack and as one Bristol official remarked one of the best games seen on the Memorial Ground this season, so even if we don't win many games our prowess is lauded throughout the rugby world. Well done boys, we are proud of you! Our luck must surely turn and we hope 1959 will bring good fortune in the points for column."

"A Happy New Year to you all from officers, committee and players of Newbridge R.F.C."
