From the match programme:-

"NOTES."

"Swansea and Newport will have at least one change each in their original team, Dewi Bebb for our visitors and Ian Ford for us. Congratulations to both on their selection for Wales. They will stand down in the usual manner when awarded the first "cap." The young Swansea threequarter was unknown until a few weeks ago, and this is a real fairy tale debut for him."

"Ian Ford has been knocking at the door for some years, and his sterling performances this season have brought him his just dues. Swansea have three representatives in the Welsh team, the other two being J. Faull and R. C. C. Thomas, both old campaigners in international rugby, whilst we have our skipper Bryn Meredith occupying his rightful berth in the middle of the front row."

"Swansea had six forwards in the last trial, and it was fancied that W. O. Williams would regain his "prop"  position, and T. Robbins was a strong challenger for the second row. In N. Gale, Swansea have a hooker highly thought of in Welsh football and he created a good impression in the trials. The pack is completed with G. Lewis a rugged front row scrummager and Gordon Morris (who was a great favourite here when he wore the black and amber) packing second row. The Newport forwards will have their hands full to hold this West Wales pack."

"B. Richards the All Whites outside-half is a brilliant attacking player, and his duel with Gethin Evans should be interesting. Newport will strive for the double this afternoon, because earlier in the season we won at St. Helen’s by 12 pts. to nil."

"The hand injury Malcolm Thomas received at Bristol is now on the mend and he can soon resume full training."

"On January 28th, we shall be playing the Royal Navy on this ground under floodlights."

"Next Saturday, we journey to Coventry for the usual game which unfortunately always falls on the date of the Wales v. England encounter."

"NEWPORT RUGBY SUPPORTERS’ NOTES."

"Although Newport were not at full strength their defeat at Newbridge was something of a surprise. But this victory will undoubtedly give a boost to the Valley club which has been rather out of luck this season."

"To-day we are pleased to welcome Swansea, and hope to see a close game, as our visitors appear to have improved considerably since we visited St. Helen’s earlier in the season."

"Congratulations to Bryn Meredith and Ian Ford on their selection for the Welsh team to meet England next Saturday. Ian has certainly merited this initial recognition and it is to be hoped that it will be the first of many. It is particularly pleasing that Bryn has regained his fitness in time for this game, after a rather unlucky illness."

"We would again like to point out that seats should be booked immediately for the ANNUAL OUTING to Leicester on Saturday, February 14th. The 'bus leaves N.A.C. early Saturday and returns Sunday. Approximate cost £3/12/6. Names may be given to the organiser, Mr. A. Paul, the Secretary, Mr. L. King, or to the canteen staff on the ground."
